A dental crown lengthening procedure adjusts the gum and bone level to expose more of the tooth so it can be restored. Crown lengthening will be done by recontouring gum tissue, sometimes bone, to expand more of a tooth’s surface for a crown. Generally, the procedure and takes less than an hour to complete. You will crown lengthening when there isn’t enough of place for the tooth that holds the crown on its own. Broken teeth or affected by tooth decay will make a crown not attach firmly.
The first step before the treatment is a professional tooth cleaning. We will reduce gum tissues and shaves down bone for doing crown lengthening so more of the tooth will appear above the gum’s surface. This procedure also is suitable for people who are not happy with their gummy smile. We will make a temporary crown until you are ready for the procedure. The temporary crown will protect your tooth in the interim and will make the fitting of your new crown easier. The periodontist will take the medical history before your surgery. Feel free to talk about your surgeon about any medications you take with our dentist. This crown lengthening procedure will be an outpatient procedure which means you can go home afterwards. Depending on the number of teeth that need the procedure, we serve a variety of time of the procedure. If you need a temporary crown on any of your neighbouring teeth, our dentist will remove them before the procedure and replace them afterwards.
