Teeth Filling
Tooth fillings restore the function, integrity, and shape of teeth affected by decay or trauma, or to replace missing structure. This treatment helps restore teeth to their normal function and appearance. During the procedure, our dentist first removes the decayed part of the tooth, cleans the area, and fills the cavity with suitable materials. Filling materials include gold, porcelain, composite resin (tooth-colored fillings), and amalgam (a mix of mercury, silver, copper, and other metals). To ensure comfort, a local anaesthetic is used to numb the area being treated. The decayed portion is removed with a drill, air abrasion tool, or laser, depending on the case. After ensuring the decay is fully cleared, the cavity is cleaned and prepared for the filling. If the decay is near the root, a liner may be used to protect the nerve. Once the filling is in place, it is polished to achieve a smooth finish. At Melbourne Family Dentist, we select filling materials based on the patient’s needs, allergies, the location of the cavity, and cost considerations. There’s no single best type of filling for everyone, so we tailor the treatment to each individual.
